Anthropographies: Works from the Sotiris Felios Collection

The Municipal Art Gallery of Agrinio and “The other Arcadia” Foundation present the exhibition “Anthropographies” with works from the Sotiris Felios Collection.

The Mayor of Agrinio, Mr Georgios Papanastasiou, will inaugurate the exhibition on Saturday 9th April 2016, at 7.30 p.m. The exhibition presents paintings and sculptures by 30 prominent Greek artists, which in their own way, depict ‘Anthropos’ (man).

The exhibition is structured in two parts: with works by the Masters, such as Tsarouchis, Moralis, Nicolaou, Engonopoulos, Botsoglou, and with works by the New Generation of painters, such as Bokoros, Daskalakis, Papanikolaou, Sacaillan, Rorris, Manoussakis, Mantzavinos, Filopoulou etc. All of the works have one thing in common: their affinity to figurative art and its traditional ways of expression.

The works that belong to “The other Arcadia” Foundation are part of the Sotiris Felios Collection. The Collection began in the mid 1980s in an attempt to search for meaning, identity and self-awareness.

Parts of the Collection have been exhibited at the Benaki Museum (Athens 2002 & 2009), the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (Thessaloniki 2003), the National Museum of Contemporary Art (Athens 2010), the Sismanoglio Megaron (Istanbul 2010), the Hellenic Institute for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice (Venice 2011), the Complesso del Vittoriano (Rome 2012), the Petros and Marika Kydoniefs Foundation (Andros 2012 & 2014), the National Gallery Annexes (in Nafplion and at the Coumantaros Art Gallery of Sparta 2013), the International Art Festival RE-culture III (Patras 2014), the Municipal Art Gallery of Chania (Chania 2014).
