Stefanos Zannis was born in Athens in 1963 where he lives and works. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) under Professor Ilias Dekoulakos (1984–1989), and later printmaking at the same university under Professor A. Exarchopoulos (1991–1994), earning a second degree. From 1993 to 1995, he was a recipient of a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), specializing in printmaking. His artistic work spans multiple fields, from painting and printmaking to book illustration and church iconography. Since 1992, he has been teaching drawing and painting, preparing students for the entrance exams of the ASFA, while also conducting children’s art workshops and private lessons. He collaborated with the MEGARON PLUS educational programs, leading creative workshops for children in partnership with the Pompidou Center. Zannis has made a significant contribution to the field of book illustration, working with notable publishers such as Patakis and Kedros, and with writers including F. D. Drakontaeidis. A distinctive part of his work is the series “Rhapsodies of the Odyssey,” which features handwritten ancient Greek texts accompanied by original artworks. His involvement with iconography began in 2012 and developed through collaborations with Kostas Markopoulos and Vlassis Tsotsonis, contributing to the decoration of churches in Piraeus, Aigio, Corinth, and the Meteora. His focus has been primarily on decorative motifs within sacred spaces.
