Making a Portrait | Workshop

Following the great public response, the exhibition “Individuality: Works from the Sotiris Felios Collection” curated by George Mylonas at the Municipal Art Gallery of Alimos has been extended until Sunday, March 9, 2025. On the penultimate day of the exhibition, Saturday, March 8, at 12:00, visitors will have the opportunity to experience a unique event, as the exhibition hall will be transformed into a live portrait study workshop.

Students from the 6th Painting Studio of the Athens School of Fine Arts, under the guidance of their professor Ioanna Kafida, will paint portraits in real time, while a group of participating artists in the exhibition will share their techniques and secrets of portraiture with the audience.

This initiative offers visitors a unique opportunity to observe the painting process in person, allowing them to understand the challenges and magic that accompany the depiction of the human face.

For the young artists, the exercise of observation, attention to detail, and understanding of the model are fundamental skills that enhance their ability to capture the essence and expression on the canvas.

For the audience, participation in this process is not only a privileged encounter with the art of portraiture, but also an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between the artist and the model. Observation and empathy become tools for decoding the image, opening new paths in the perception of art.
